Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing) in Seomyeon, Busan

Cryolipolysis (냉각 지방분해), also called fat freezing, uses a device that suctions and cools a fat bulge to a controlled low temperature, causing fat cells to die gradually without surgery. In Seomyeon, Busan, each applicator cycle takes about 35–60 minutes and you can return to normal activities right away. Results develop over 1–3 months, and some areas benefit from a second session.

What is cryolipolysis?

Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than surrounding skin and muscle. Cryolipolysis takes advantage of this by drawing a fold of fat into a cooled cup and holding it at a precise low temperature. The chilled fat cells undergo a slow, programmed cell death over the following weeks and are cleared by the body. CoolSculpting is the best-known brand; several other devices exist in Korea.

Who is it for?

  • People near their target weight with defined, pinchable fat bulges
  • Those wanting fat reduction without surgery or needles
  • People who accept gradual, moderate results

It is not a weight-loss method and does not tighten loose skin. People with cold-related conditions such as cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria must not have it. Hernias in or near the area, recent surgery there and pregnancy are also reasons to avoid treatment.

What happens at the clinic

  1. Assessment: the clinician checks fat thickness and whether it fits the applicator.
  2. Marking and gel pad: the area is marked and a protective gel pad applied.
  3. Applicator: the cup suctions the fat; you feel pulling and intense cold that becomes numb within minutes.
  4. Cycle: you relax, read or rest for the cycle duration.
  5. Massage: after removal, the area is often massaged briefly to improve results.

Recovery and aftercare

Redness, swelling, bruising, tingling, numbness and tenderness are common and usually fade within days to a few weeks. You can generally return to work immediately. Results appear gradually from about 3 weeks, with the most change by 2–3 months. Keeping your weight stable maintains the result.

Risks and side effects

  • Temporary numbness, aching or itching, sometimes lasting weeks
  • Bruising and swelling
  • Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia: a rare effect in which the treated area enlarges and firms months later; it usually needs liposuction to correct
  • Uneven contour or "shelf" edges
  • Cold injury to skin if devices are misused

Choosing a clinic for cryolipolysis in Seomyeon

  • Ask which device is used and whether applicators are genuine and properly maintained.
  • Choose a clinic where a physician assesses suitability, including cold-related conditions.
  • Ask how many cycles are needed for a smooth result in your area.
  • Ask about paradoxical adipose hyperplasia and how it would be managed.
  • Compare with fat-dissolving injections or liposuction for your goals.

No downtime

Since you can resume normal activities immediately, cryolipolysis fits busy schedules. Seomyeon's clinics are a short walk from the metro.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to see cryolipolysis results?

Changes usually begin about three weeks after treatment, with the most noticeable results at 2–3 months as the body clears the treated fat cells. Some areas benefit from a second session.

Does fat freezing hurt?

The first minutes involve pulling and intense cold, which usually become numb. Afterward, tenderness, tingling or aching for days or weeks is common. Most people tolerate it well.

Is cryolipolysis permanent?

Fat cells that die are removed permanently. However, remaining fat cells can grow with weight gain, so stable weight helps maintain the change.

What is paradoxical adipose hyperplasia?

It is a rare side effect where the treated area grows larger and firmer months after cryolipolysis. It does not resolve on its own and is usually treated with liposuction. Ask your clinic about this risk.

Cryolipolysis vs liposuction: which is right for me?

Cryolipolysis is non-surgical with minimal downtime but modest, gradual results. Liposuction removes more fat in a single procedure but involves surgery and recovery. The amount of fat and your goals guide the choice.
